New prints! Enjoy a night of ‘40s music on film, beginning with The Beginnings of Bebop, a guided tour of New York’s historic jazz hotspots led by Dizzy Gillespie. Next on the bill: Minnelli’s feature film debut, a musical fantasy about a gambler with one last chance to redeem his soul. The all-Black cast includes Eddie “Rochester” Anderson, Ethel Waters, Rex Ingram, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Butterfly McQueen, Bill Bailey, and more. Prints from the Yale Film Archive.
