Toni Servillo Double Feature Event | La stranezza (2022) at 4 pm | 16th Annual Festival of New Italian Cinema
Luigi Pirandello, played by Toni Servillo, is at the height of his fame as Italy’s foremost playwright, but he is suffering from writer’s block. He returns to his hometown in Sicily where a unique folk culture fosters a passion for theater. Here, he encounters two gravediggers who also run an amateur troupe. The “strangeness” of this connection, with all its unexpected twists and turns, inspires Pirandello to write Six Characters in Search of an Author, a controversial masterpiece in avant-garde, absurdist theater.
Each April, the Film and Media Studies Program in conjunction with the Italian Department stages a four-day festival of recent Italian films. With introductions and post-screening discussions, you won’t want to miss this special showcase!
