Film Screening: Space is the Place (1974)

In partnership with Best Video Film & Cultural Center Transport yourself to an out-of-this-world experience for an outdoor screening of the Afrofuturism sci-fi film Space Is The Place (1974) at the Spring Glen UCC Church. Starring avant-garde American Jazz musician Sun Ra and his Arkestra, Space Is The Place explores the intersection of film and music creating a multi-faceted science fiction journey to resettle the Black community on another planet. Featuring live musical performances and social commentaries and criticisms, Pitchfork says of the John Coney-directed film, “Sun Ra was nothing if not a multimedia artist who understood the power of a spectacle…just put on your spacesuit and blast off.” This is an outdoor event, so dress accordingly- and BYOChair!
